Design ~ Build

Mennonite High Chair

I repaired and refinished this heirloom highchair, preserving the original tool marks, earlier repairs, and the overall patina. Original hardware was realigned for proper function as well. This chair had been built by the owner’s ancestor and has been used by several generations of the family, including the owner’s children. My own daughter also had the privilege of its use!

Double-Headed Axe

I found this axe in my woodshed after we bought our house. It had been buried in debris, was thoroughly encased in rust, and had been left outside for many years. The head and handle were still secure, allowing me to polish the head and refinish the handle. In my enthusiasm to begin the job, I didn’t wait to take a ‘Before’ picture!

China Hutch

A client of mine had previously commissioned this china hutch as a built-in piece of furniture from another shop. The intent was that this would serve as built-in cabinetry in the current house, but could be removed and used as free-standing furniture after relocating to a future house. When the unit was moved to the new house, it was discovered that the sides, base, and overall structure had not been built to the level of finish or stability required. I was asked to secure the structure, replace the top of the lower section, and install finished ends to complete the unit as a single piece of furniture. The new material was stain-matched to the existing finish.
