Design ~ Build

Sash

During seven years building sash, I’ve seen a few special projects pass through the shop. This is one of them, for a residence in New Westminster. These are stain-grade sash featuring Y-shaped glazing bars. The coped mortise and tennon joints were particularly complex to build. Work completed for Vintage Woodworks.

Storm Windows

These curved-top storm windows were built for Congregation Emanu-El, Canada’s oldest continuously operating synagogue. Built it 1863, it is British Columbia’s oldest house of worship. Work completed for Vintage Woodworks.

Cordova Bay Cottage

During a renovation of a one-bedroom cottage, I was tasked with activating a set of windows. These were re-purposed single-glazed windows salvaged from a previous building. I removed one of the sash, replaced broken glass, repaired the woodwork, and modified the unit for the hardware we selected. The jamb, casing, and other related parts were repaired and cleaned up as needed. Painting was completed by others.

Garage Doors

These salvaged doors were modified and re-purposed to close off the basement workshop and crawl space from the garage during thermal upgrades to the house. Extensions were added to the doors to allow the largest opening possible. A third panel was built with hardware locking it in the closed position. This allows the second door, hinged to this panel, to open and clear the base of the fireplace masonry beyond while providing the flexibility of a larger opening when needed.

Stair Nose for Yacht

I machined and installed this curved teak stair nose in a yacht during an upgrade to the interior decking.
